Care Guide

At DAN LIEM, we always source the best materials and fabric for our products to ensure they are both wonderful and durable. Some of our materials are delicate and need special care, so make sure you take a note

General Care

Keep the shoes clean and dry using a dry soft cloth. Store them in the dust bag provided, each shoe in a separate bag away from light and heat, rain and moisture. Avoid contact with abrasive surfaces.

We cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from accident or misuse, dye transfer, exposure to water or chemicals, alteration, service or repair by any party

Sole and Heels

The soles of DAN LIEM shoes are made of a rubber and will therefore naturally wear down with usage. It is not recommended to walk on wet soil as shoes will get dirty and the stains are very difficult to remove. Small stains on the leather sole can be softened by rubbing gently with an eraser. It is recommended to change heel tips before the inner heel begins to show. Heel tips can be changed at a shoe cobbler.

Handwoven Tenun

Most of our shoes are using the handwoven textile directly sourced from the artisans across Indonesian regions. This delicated handwoven tenun is extremely absorbent, especially in paler shades, and should be kept away from damp surfaces. Once they become deeply ingrained, water marks can be impossible to remove. We highly recommend using a suitable protector upon your shoes prior to wear and having a quality brush on-hand for general maintenance; gently brush the shoe’s surface, to prevent damage to the suede.

Silk Tenun

The silk tenun is a delicate fabric, minimal contact with sharp or rough objects may cause it to pull or tear. Contact with liquid may cause it to stain and therefore it is important to keep your shoes safe from rain and other liquids. When not in use, keep your shoes clean, dry and in their care bags.

Tulle

Our signature collaboration are using tulle on top of the handwoven tenun. As beautiful and delicate as it looks, abrasion may damage the intricate fibres, leaving snags which are impossible to repair. Use a soft, dry cloth to remove small amounts of dirt from the tulle.

Pearls

Some of our custom shoes are using pearl directly sourced from the artisans in Lombok. As delicate as it looks, we always recommend that you keep your shoes stored in their dust bags after wear, and that you expose the pearl to minimum friction as any abrasion will lead to the pearls eventually detaching.

Lace

Shoes crafted from lace materials should be worn and treated with care to avoid abrasion or snagging, as damage to the material cannot be repaired. Use a soft cloth to wipe away any light dirt.
